HISTORIC PROGRAMS HISTORY
For the past two decades,
Historic Programs has had the privilege of working
with many of America's top student performing ensembles.
School music groups across the country have participated in
our programs for historic events all over the world.
We were in Philadelphia for the 200th Anniversary of the
Constitution (1987), and for Benjamin Franklin's 300th
Birthday (2006); in Spain for the 500th Anniversary of
Columbus' historic voyage (1992); in Washington, DC for its
Bicentennial as our Capital (1991) and the Bicentennial of
the White House (2000); and in New York, Washington, DC,
Hawaii, and Normandy France to honor and pay a musical
tribute to our United States Veterans (2001 - present).
Since 2004, Historic Programs has also had the
honor of working with MENC: The National Association for
Music Education on the National Anthem Project.
Historic Programs is the official tour and concert
provider for the project. This wonderful campaign has
involved thousands of directors and students around the
country, providing performance opportunities to raise
awareness of the importance of the National Anthem, and the
value of music in our schools. Performance highlights
from the project include: the project launch, covered by
Good Morning America (Washington, DC 2005); American Legion
National Convention (Nashville, TN 2005); Honor Choir
Concert held at the Smithsonian Museum of American History
(Washington, DC 2006); road Show Finale Concert (New York,
NY 2006); the National Anthem Project Music Ambassadors
Choir at the Tournament of Roses Parade (Pasadena, CA 2007).

MEMORABLE
PERFORMANCES
Every participating student
musician in the "American Musical Salute" will have the
unique opportunity to perform at a significant and
historic venue. These students represent the best
that each school has to offer, and they serve as musical
ambassadors in every city and every location in which
they perform. The chance to take the music learned
in band or choir and share it with citizens and
visitors and other Historic Programs groups will be an
experience each student will cherish throughout their
life.EDUCATION
There is no better way to
learn than to have first-hand experience. The
events of Historic Programs take students out of the world
they know and place them in historic destinations around
the world. Textbooks come to life as students see
for themselves the art, monuments, memorials, buildings
and museums unique to every city hosting the "American
Musical Salute." Students, teachers, parents and
administrators alike can rest assured that the lessons
learned by participating in these events will only
strengthen and support the teachings in the classroom.
